I chose CCB because of my particular interest in cancer biology, the intimacy of the program being smaller, and because I love Chicago. I believe one of the greatest strengths of CCB is its wide breadth of research interests in the field of cancer biology. It allows for a creative and innovative research environment. CCB research is exciting because it is so multidisciplinary. From metabolism to immunology to senescence to translational work all the way back to basic foundational biology, you can find something within your interests. Collaboration in CCB is vast, whether more unofficially by asking for reagents openly or learning new techniques or writing papers together, most research is done in collaboration with others
My favorite class was Cancer Biology V: Introduction to Experimental Cancer Biology CABI 39000. This was a literature-based class introducing the main experimental methods and keystone papers to experimental cancer biology. I loved this class because the content was interesting but also because Dr. Rosner, the professor, got an author of every paper we read to zoom into our class and give live feedback/answer questions. This showed the true realities of research and gave incredible insight to the research process.
